On Sunday, October 21st, 2001, the gala event, Kanata Kapers III took place to benefit Project Amik, the affordable housing project that is now under construction at Coxwell & Gerrard in East Toronto. The always delightful Shingoose , who came all the way from Winnipeg, graciously emceed the event and treated the audience to some songs from his latest album as well.

Comic relief was provided by 'our favourite Buckskin comedian,' Mocassin Joe , whose lessons on 'Dick and Jane ' and rendition of the 'Macarena' left everyone in stitches.

As well, Don Harron delighted us with his ' Charlie Farquaharson ', who reported that he was a little confuzzled by the invitation from cat-house.

Chief Great Eagle made a third appearance at a Kanata Kapers event, time-travelling over 400 years until present-day Toronto. Needless to say the shock felt by Chief Great Eagle and his gang in this new, transformed land, made for some very humourous encounters as well as some profround observations about the present state of our nation's first peoples.

The evening's entertainment also included many talented muscians such as Steve McPhail and Shahi Cuffy ...
and the impressive Bolivian traditional Andena musicians, Bolivian Roots .

Gerilyn Meawassige and Waboowe Whitebird performed a jingle dress drum and grass dress in traditional native costume. For the first time ever at a Kanata Kapers a delicious buffet dinner was server prior to the talent that included corn soup and fresh pickerel and trout brought in from Batchawana Bay.
City TV in Toronto had Duke Redbird covering the event, and the repeated playing of the tape resulted in great exposure for Project Amik, and some donations for the Foundation. All in all the evening was a terrific success - hope we'll see you all at Kanata Kapers IV!!
