Laura and James go to Trout Lake, NT

Reading in Trout lake

Some of the volunteers maintain their own blogs of their experiences while in Canada's North.

One volunteer blog is called Laura and James go to Trout Lake, NT. What it's about is fairly self-evident. As they say on their blog:

Trout Lake is a small, isolated Dene community in the Northwest Territories with a population of about 70. It is fly-in only except when the ice freezes and they build a winter road. We are volunteering here for 10 months through Frontiers Foundation, and this blog is our way of sharing some photos and keeping in touch with friends and family.

The photo is from a literacy event they had in September of 2008:

This afternoon the school went to the arbor to read by the campfire as an event for literacy. We had some parents and people from the community join us as well. James got a break from work to come help us out. The weather today was sunny and pretty warm and we had marshmallows and hot dogs to roast on the fire, as well as some hot chocolate. It was a nice break and the kids had a fun time.... plus I think we're going to be in the Deh Cho Drum this week as well!
